Editorial Policy

Home Comfort Answers exists to give homeowners accurate, practical and safe information. This page explains how we research, write, review and update our content.

Our standards

  1. Accuracy first. We base technical facts on authoritative sources: the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ENERGY STAR, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the IRS for tax topics, industry standards organizations such as ACCA and AHRI, and manufacturers’ installation and service documentation.
  2. Safety before DIY. Our troubleshooting guides start with the safest, simplest checks. When a task involves gas, high voltage, refrigerant or the risk of carbon monoxide, we clearly say when to stop and call a licensed professional.
  3. Plain language. We explain technical terms in everyday words and use tables and step-by-step instructions to make information easy to use.
  4. Honest cost information. Price ranges are presented as typical planning estimates, and we explain the factors that change them. We encourage readers to get multiple written quotes.
  5. No pressure, no scare tactics. We explain when repair makes sense and when replacement makes sense, without pushing readers toward unnecessary purchases.

How articles are created

  • Topic selection: we prioritize the problems and questions homeowners search for most, along with reader suggestions.
  • Research: writers review primary sources, standards and manufacturer documentation.
  • Writing: articles follow a consistent structure: a direct answer first, quick facts, step-by-step guidance, safety notes, frequently asked questions and links to related guides.
  • Review: each article is checked for technical accuracy, safety language, clarity and up-to-date information before publication.

We may use software tools, including AI-assisted tools, to help with research organization and drafting. Every article is reviewed and edited by our editorial team, and we take full responsibility for everything we publish.

Updates and corrections

Regulations, efficiency standards, refrigerants, incentives and prices change. We review articles regularly and update them when information changes. If you find an error, please email contact@homecomfortanswers.com with the article title and details. We review every correction request and update content when warranted.

Independence and advertising

Home Comfort Answers is supported by display advertising. Advertisers do not review, approve or influence our content, and we do not accept payment for favorable coverage. If we ever publish sponsored content or affiliate links, they will be clearly disclosed.
